Best Golden Globe Red Carpet Glasses Looks
Stars looked fabulous in all-black outfits, which they wore in solidarity with the Time’s Up movement against women’s sexual harassment and discrimination. We spotted some interesting eyeglasses looks from Oprah, Meryl Streep, Guillermo del Toro, Gary Oldman and others.
Stay tuned for our coverage of the best eyewear looks worn on the Red Carpet!
Cecil B. DeMille award winner – Oprah Winfrey
This year’s Golden Globes marked the first time that a woman of color ever received the Cecil B. DeMille award for her outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. Oprah took on the theme of a politically charged night with a powerful speech and a pair of stylish, no-nonsense oversized cat-eyes that made her look as fierce as ever.
To recreate her power look, try these elegant cat-eye frames in black acetate. The thick frame and upswept design lines make it a perfect frame for day-to-day looks at the office, but also for more formal occasions.
Best Director Winner – Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water)
Mexican director Guillermo del Toro picked up his long-awaited Golden Globe for Best Director. It was about time that this master of fantastic tales was appreciated for his craft. As the orchestra started playing before del Toro could finish his speech, he continued, insisting he needed more time.
“Lower the music,” he said. “It has taken me 25 years to get here. Give me a minute,” he continued, as the audience stirred up the atmosphere with loud applause.
On the night, he wore a classic pair of squared, black-rimmed glasses that framed his visage really well. These glasses are extremely versatile and never get old. Here are some similar, more colorful styles for you to try if you liked this look.
Best Actress (Nominee) – Meryl Streep
Accompanied by activist and National Domestic Workers Alliance director Ai-Jen Poo, Meryl Streep looked fabulous on the night, in a pair of vintage-inspired angular frames with an upswept design. Upward sloping lines highlight her cheekbones and create a youthful effect.
Re-create the look with Coquette, our rectangular cat-eye hybrid frame with the same silhouette.
Best Actor Winner – Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman looked like a real gentleman in his all-black tux, a nod of support to the Time’s Up campaign that pervaded the conversation throughout the evening. His Golden Globe win in 2018 marks the first time the actor has received the statuette.
Get that classic, old-time style allure that fits Gary Oldman so well, with a pair of bold, thick-rimmed eyeglasses. This particular style is best for round and oval faces.
Tommy Wiseau & Greg Sestero
Looking as mysterious as always, Tommy Wiseau made a surprise appearance at the 2018 Golden Globes. This year, the controversial actor’s life was turned into a film called simply The Disaster Artist. James Franco played the role of Wiseau, a role which brought him a nomination for Best Actor.
Get Wiseau & Sestero’s “undercover agent” look with a pair of brown-tinted aviators, or a classic D-frame, as worn by the legendary man himself.
Best Actress (Nominee) – Emma Stone
Emma Stone was another one of the stars who chose to bring a women’s rights activist as a ‘date’ for the Golden Globes. Here she is, pictured alongside Billie Jean King, the real-life tennis player she plays in the dramatic comedy Battle of the Sexes.
Billie Jean looks super elegant in a black suit and pearls and we think her eyeglasses choice could not be more appropriate – both for the event and as a match for her angular face shape. The round, slightly darkened transition lenses soften her features and give her a distinctive allure.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama)
Call me by your name – Timothée Chalamet – Nominee
Up-and-coming acting talent Timotée Chalamet impressed the juries with his performance in director Luca Guadagnino’s romantic masterpiece. His character, Elio, really left a mark on us with his wit and charm.

Roman J. Israel, Esq. – Denzel Washington – Nominee
Time and time again Denzel stands out from the rest, with class and character. In his exciting performance as Roman J. Israel, Esq., a driven, idealistic defense attorney, his distinctive persona is brought to life with the help of a pair of bold ‘70s aviators that show he means business.

Darkest hour – Gary Oldman – WINNER
Gary Oldman stars as Winston Churchill in this World War II drama which recounts the story of the newly appointed British prime minister facing a huge decision.
His character’s look could not have been achieved without that distinctive pair of round specs that makes Churchill’s portrait so distinctive. Not surprisingly, this style has remained as popular today as it used to be almost a hundred years ago.

With a pair of stylish, round men’s eyeglasses , you too can be ready to change the course of history (or, you know, fashion history).
Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy)
Battle of the sexes – Steve Carell – Nominee
For a while now, trendy eyeglasses have been a regular fixture in Steve Carell’s look. In Battle of the Sexes, the costume designer paired his conspicuous sideburns with a geeky tortoiseshell frame, creating a remarkable look. You can see that the spirit of the ‘70s really shines through the style of Carell’s character.
GET THE LOOK!
Try the sexy Carell look (minus the sideburns) with a pair of horn-rimmed nerd-style eyeglasses .
Baby Driver – Ansel Elgort – Nominee
Ever since he appeared in The Fault in Our Stars, Ansel Elgort has been breaking teenager hearts all around the world. Now, he has made it to the list of Golden Globe nominees, for the first time ever.
We love his latest appearance as Baby Driver in the film of the same name and think that the bad-boy look fits him perfectly. Always with his mysterious sunglasses on hand, that is.
GET THE LOOK!
Get a snazzy men’s half-frame with metallic details in any color you like – gray, black, or royal blue – and perfect your adventurous driver look.
The Disaster Artis t – James Franco – Winner
Any style disaster is art in the hands of James Franco – we just can’t deny it. Even with dyed metalhead hair and Matrix-style sunglasses, Franco looks swell in goth-chic, impersonating mystery man Tommy Wiseau.
But, since we’re not so sure anyone would genuinely want to steal his sunglasses look, we’re going to recommend a serious upgrade on those shades.
GET THE LOOK!
If you want to get in character without compromising on style, you can up your mystery game with a mean pair of d-frame shades for men to top off your most daring looks.

The Post – Meryl Streep – Nominee
No Golden Globes awards ceremony would be complete without our beloved Meryl Streep. The talented veteran has already won 8 statuettes and can count over 30 nominations to this day. And, to top it all off, in recent years, many of Meryl Streep’s off-screen eyeglasses have become yearned-for accessories for her devoted fans (yep, us too!).

GET THE LOOKS!
Because we loved her looks so much, we’ve matched several glasses frames that she wears in the film, so you can mix & match the looks.
For a sleek appearance that brings your confidence forward, opt for a rectangular prescription glasses frame which highlights the more masculine, angular traits of your face.
When it comes to sunglasses, you can achieve that untouchable poster look with a pair of dark oversized cat-eyes (below) , or take it down a notch for the chic day look, with some classy ombre sunglasses .
Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy)
Battle of the Sexes – Emma Stone – Nominee
Emma Stone’s transformation for this film is unbelievable and it shows what a versatile actress she is. From behind her pair of quirky gold-frame readers, she goes after her opponent (played by Steve Carell) with stout determination and becomes the hero of the day. We’re so thrilled to see her again among the nominees, she totally deserves it.
GET THE LOOK!
The thin, sculpted eyeglass frame has recently made a comeback and is a frequent style staple of brainy characters. Try the look with an elegant round metal frame in gold and brown .
The Leisure Seeker – Helen Mirren – Nominee
In Paolo Virzi’s latest feature, Helen Mirren plays Ella, an elderly woman who, along with her partner, John, goes on an unforgettable adventure in the RV they call The Pleasure Seeker. We think that Ella’s quiet elegance and charming “old lady” style is best exemplified by her superb vintage glasses.

There’s no way to escape the scorching heat of Lombardian summers, so you’d best be prepared with the right gear. The Shape of Water – Richard Jenkins – Nominee
In The Shape of Water, Giles, the character played by Richard Jenkins, befriends Elisa (Sally Hawkins), the lonely janitor who discovers the secret of the science research facility where she is employed. From behind his round swanky glasses, Jenkins looks like an affable and gentle professor, who’s always got a good word to share.

After a three-year-long absence, Mary J Blige makes her return to the silver screen in the role of Florence Jackson, the loving wife of pastor Hap Jackson (played by Rob Morgan). Once again, her strong presence and talent do not go unnoticed, and her sunglasses compliment the powerful persona she creates onscreen.

Best Drama Series
This Is Us – Nominated
This is us is one of the series that’s quickly grown on us and we really love the fact that several characters (not just the central one) are sporting glasses in this show, which are perfect examples of current design trends.
We’re also excited to congratulate Sterling Brown for his Best Actor win, for playing Randall Pearson, one of the show’s central characters. Not only does his stern eyeglasses frame flatter his facial traits, but it also fits his character perfectly.

Game of Thrones – Nominated
It’s probably no surprise that Game of Thrones is on the list of nominees again. No on-screen glasses looks here, but we’ve found this precious behind-the-scenes shot that got us excited about the (sigh) final season. Doesn’t John (ahem, Kit) look awesome in these specs?
GET THE LOOK!
You know you want Kit Harington’s glasses! Try Razz, our round metal eyeglasses frame in any color you like – carbon black, dark brown & gold, or greystone.
The Crown – Nominated
Claire Foy looks impeccable as the young Queen Elizabeth II and we’re totally in love with the aristocratic looks on the show, These cat-eye specs are a real symbol of what fashion was all about during those days – grace, finesse, and framing natural beauty.

Since this sunglasses shape is rather hard to wear with grace in our modern times, we’d like to suggest an updated version that’s just as eye-catching and which was inspired by the Queen herself.
Get our Elizabeth cat-eye frame in reading glasses or sunglasses version and be prepared to turn some heads!
Best Comedy/Musical Series
Master of None – Nominated
Who doesn’t want to get behind the scenes in an actor’s life in NYC? Dev (Aziz Ansari) always looks stylish and we’re so thrilled to have spotted him in a glasses look. Despite the thick rims, those impeccable design lines really flatter his features & make him shine.

GET THE LOOK!
It was a hard task picking just some of the glasses looks on the show, as they are all genuinely stunning. To recreate the three looks above, we recommend a vintage small cat-eye frame for Bette’s on-set look, a dramatic cat-eye sunglasses frame for Joan’s, and a classy cat-eye glasses frame if you’ve really got your eye on Mamacita.
Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television
Feud – Jessica Lange – Nominee
But wait, there’s more! Because Feud was so darn good, both lead actresses were nominated for a Best Actress award. Here is Jessica Lange shining as Joan Crawford, in a pair of elegant tortoiseshell cat-eyes.
GET THE LOOK!
We’ve got the exact match for this style – try our stylish oversized cat-eye frame and find out what it’s like to look like a vintage movie queen!
Feud – Susan Sarandon – Nominee
If you’ve seen the show, you know that one of the triggers for the massive feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford was the fact that only Bette was nominated for an Academy Award for the movie What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) , the two actresses’ only collaboration on the big screen.
Thankfully, the 2018 Golden Globes are no cause for concern, as both of the brilliant leading actresses (Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange) were considered for the Golden Globe award. But, there can only be one winner…
GET THE LOOK!
Get your movie star glamour on with a pair of classy round oversized sunglasses in tortoiseshell (or even some clear acetate statement frames ) that show off your attitude. Wear them day and night, like any style queen would!
Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television
Wizard of Lies – Michelle Pfeiffer – Nominee
One of our favorite eyeglasses looks from this year’s nominees is Michelle Pfeiffer as Ruth Madoff, wife of Ponzi scheme head Bernie Madoff (played by Robert De Niro). The black round frames provide an exciting contrast to Pfeiffer’s light blonde hair and frame her face beautifully.
